About Dr. Michael Sun, MD

Thanks for allowing me an opportunity to introduce myself!

My name is Dr. Michael Sun, but first and foremost, I am husband to Dr. Shelun Tsai, and father to a lovely baby boy, Sam. I graduated from Harvard University (where I met my lovely wife!) and Dartmouth Medical School before completing my adult psychiatry residency training at Duke University and my child and adolescent fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Before moving to Seattle, I was the Site Director for Education at the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Unit for the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. I have a special interest in cultural psychiatry and worked to develop effective mental health interventions in Boston Chinatown through a SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program. I am a board-certified psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, hiking, Ultimate Frisbee, and brushing up on my Mandarin skills.

Seldom do I take an opportunity to talk myself up (and certainly never in person), so please indulge me just for a moment to say this: I have trained at some of the greatest institutions and the best Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship in the country. I’ve worked and had success with some of the most complex cases in the New York City mental health system. I understand what it means for someone to struggle or for a family to need help. And I am confident in my approach and my ability to help.
