What to Expect
Psychiatric Evaluation
The first visit will be approximately 90 minutes.
Following the initial appointment, if we both feel that Sun Family Psychiatry is a good fit, we will proceed with scheduling follow-up appointments.
Subsequent sessions may involve medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of both.
If you are already working with a psychotherapist, or if psychotherapy is recommended though you wish to pursue it elsewhere, I would be happy to coordinate and collaborate with any therapist you wish.
I am also happy to share my impressions and potential plan and collaborate with any other provider you desire.
General Treatment Options
Medication Management
If, after the initial evaluation, we agree to proceed with medication management, you will have full access to my calendar to schedule as many follow-up appointments as necessary to discuss the treatment plan, including the risks and benefits of starting medication treatment. You will also have access to email and voice mail to communicate any and all questions/concerns between appointments.
Follow-up medication management appointments can occur as often as every week to ensure safe, stable, and optimized medication dosing while monitoring for potential side effects. These appointments typically last 25 minutes.
Follow-up appointments, phone calls, and emails are provided at no additional cost. You pay a flat monthly fee. This allows for periods of increased supervision and follow-up when the situation demands it without consideration of increased cost. For more, please see the FAQs.
After the initial phase of achieving a safe and effective medication regimen, 30-minute medication follow-up visits can be reduced to as often as every 3 months (depending on the type of mediation).
Psychotherapy
If, after the initial evaluation, we agree to proceed with therapy, we will schedule a 50-minute appointment to begin therapy and discuss the treatment plan, including the details and expectations for the proposed method of therapy.
Psychotherapy, with or without medication management, typically lasts 50 minutes and will typically occur on a weekly basis, though meeting more or less frequently is possible, depending on the type of therapy and issue being addressed.
Psychotherapy is billed at a flat rate per session. For more, please see the FAQs.
